So, when you are diabetic, your body either doesn’t produce insulin or is not able to use the insulin that the body produces. Increased blood sugar levels can cause damage to vital organs like kidneys, eyes, nerves, and other organs in the human body.
Diabetes is a very common disease nowadays. In a population of about 37.3 million people in America, about 1 in 10 have diabetes and also about 1 in 5 people do not know that they are diabetic.
The Different Types Of Diabetes Are As Follows:
- Type 1 diabetes: Type 1 diabetes is usually a genetic disorder that shows up at an early age itself. It occurs when your body’s immune system fights and attacks the insulin-producing cells. Those insulin-producing cells are called beta cells which are in the pancreas. About 10 percent of the people with diabetes suffer from this type. They need regular administration of insulin.it is mostly hereditary.i.e.if your parents are diabetic, you are more likely to have this type. The most common symptoms oy type1 diabetes are frequent urination, thirst, hunger, etc.
- Type 2 diabetes: In type 2 diabetes, sugar builds up in your blood as your body becomes resistant to the insulin hormone. People with type 2 diabetes usually take medicines to get back their blood sugar levels in control. Type 2 diabetes is usually caused by the lifestyle factors such as improper lifestyle, obesity, unhealthy diet, no physical activities, intake of lots of sugary items, etc.
- Prediabetes: In this type of diabetes, your blood sugar level will be higher than the normal level but is not high enough as type2 diabetes. Prediabetes can even lead to other health conditions including heart diseases, stroke, etc. You can easily get back to the normal level with the help of a proper healthy lifestyle.
- Gestational diabetes: This is a condition that occurs during pregnancy time. The placenta supplies the fetus with necessary nutrients, water, and certain hormones. These hormones may sometimes block insulin production and thus makes the pregnant woman diabetic. Every year, about 10 percent of pregnant ladies in the U.S. are affected by gestational diabetes.
The risk of diabetes keeps on increasing with age. 35percent of the people who are above the age of 60 are more likely to have diabetes than the younger generation. It is so important to manage and control diabetes, or else it can cause other serious health problems like kidney disease, stroke, etc. It may also lead to permanent damage to your nerves which can even result in amputation. Type 2 diabetic patients are more likely to have cancer or Alzheimer’s disease.

- Reduce the intake of sugary items. Sugar is the most common ingredient that should be avoided from your diet. Most of these sugary foods are processed foods. So people might not know what they are having. All this sugar-loaded in the body finally makes you a diabetic patient.
- Stop smoking: Smokers are 45 percent more likely to get type 2 diabetes than people who are nonsmokers. High levels of nicotine in the body lessen the effect of insulin a thus smokers need more amount of insulin to maintain their blood sugar levels.
- Manage your cholesterol: Cholesterol levels should be checked at least once a month.
- Manage your Blood Pressure level: Reduce sodium in your diet if you have high blood pressure Avoid unwanted tensions and anxiety. Try to go for a walk daily with your friends to make yourself fresh and energetic
- Keep close contact with your physician: Keep close contact with your physician and without fail do visit the clinic once a month and do a routine check-up.
